Frequently Asked Questions
What is the maximum load rating for the Aerial Buddy Fiber Optic Sheave?
Will the Aerial Buddy support Optical Ground Wire "OPGW" and Static Wire installations?
Yes, as long as the load rating is not exceeded and the cable MFR's minimum bend radius is maintained.
What is the maximum OD cable the sheave will handle?
Up to 2 inches. Users should always maintain the cable MFR's minimum bend radius when sizing cable to work with the sheave.
Why should I buy a fiberglass fish tape? I have always used a metal one.
Fiberglass is non-conductive, bends in all directions without kinking, slides easily over existing wire in conduit, non-corrosive, lightweight, easily accepts accessories.
What is the maximum pulling tension of the Wee Buddy® and Microduct Fishers?
How do I avoid getting the rod tangled when I pay out or retract my fish tape or duct rodder?
Set the drag brake to allow the reel to spin freely. When paying out, never pull the rod so quickly that it outpaces the spinning of the reel. Allow the tension of the unwinding rod to naturally spin the reel. When retracting, never manually spin the reel to wind up the rod. Push the rod in short increments so it seats firmly against the inside edge of the reel, causing the reel to spin as the rod is taken up.
Do you sell replacement rod for rodders?
What do I do if the length of my rod (example 1000' Big Buddy) is not long enough for my job?
If job requires more rod than is on reel, you can use an additional reel with rod and combine the rods using swivel coupling or grapples. See Big Buddy® Manual for additional information.
What is the longest rodder that Jameson manufactures?
1,500' is our longest finished length on a frame. However, you can connect rodders for additional length when needed.
What is the thread size of our end ferrules?
GM Tracer ¼"-20
DH 5/16" 3/8"-16
DH 7/16" 3/8"-16
Are the Good Buddy® and Big Buddy® accessories interchangeable?
Yes, however accessories are optimized for the specific models.
Will Jameson rodder accessories (ferrules etc.) fit other brands of rodders?
We recommend Jameson parts for Jameson products to ensure the highest quality performance.
What is the difference between the Duct Hunter™ and Buddy® Fiberglass Duct Rodder application?
Jameson's Buddy® Rodders are for installing cable; Duct Hunters™ are for tracing underground conduit/pipe.
What items are required in order to use a Duct Hunter™?

Will my locator work with the Duct Hunter?™
Yes. Jameson's Duct Hunter™ works with any make/model locator set.
Can a Duct Hunter™ be repaired? Spliced?
How do I get repair parts for my Jameson rodder?

Why do I not get a signal when using the traceable rodder?
Why are Glow Rod Ferrules the same size for all rod diameters?
This allows the use of different diameter rods together to customize for different job applications, depending on length and amount of flexibility needed for specific job.
Jameson makes a set of small Glow Rods, when would I want to use them?
When greater flexibility is required.

Live Tracer - Water Main
What is the PSI rating?
What tools are needed for mechanical saddle?
Ratchet Tapping Tee Tool with 5/8" hex drive.
Will the cutter be able to seal out the water after making the cut and then bringing the cutter back up to remove the tap tool?
There will be no water when the cutter is retracted to the top of the chimney of the insertion tee.
Will there be any challenges to putting the cap back on the tee after the cut with water flowing out the top especially in the 4" and 6" saddles?
There needs to be a pup on the outlet of the tee with a brass ball valve to screw the Jameson stuffing box for rod insertion. When proper procedures are followed there will be no water flowing out of the 1" outlet of the insertion tee or the top of the chimney of the insertion tee. When the cutter is back seated at the top of the chimney this will eliminate any water leakage.
For water companies that do not want to bring the pipe to grade, what is recommended to seal off pup with water running in it so they can bury it?
Cut off brass valve on outlet of tee insertion assembly and screw in a brass plug if required.
Live Tracer - Gas Main
Will there be a different torque used when the saddle is attached to a PVC pipe vs PE Pipe, vs Adyl-A pipe?
No. PVC and Polyethylene have the same OD.
Is there an air test required prior to putting the insertion tee into service with natural gas?
What fittings do you recommend for attaching the pup or transition fitting to the gas line mechanical saddle and then attaching the valve and stuffing box?
This is the same procedure as EF insertion tee. Nothing has changed with the outlet - it is only the saddle. One is EF and one is mechanical. The cutter, the cap and the outlet of the tee are the same.
Are your poles interchangeable?
Yes. Jameson uses the same heavy duty leaf spring aluminum ferrules on all poles so they can be used together in any combination.
Why does Jameson offer so many pole options?
To meet the specific needs of our different customers, Jameson has developed poles for line clearance, line construction, arborists, landscapers and homeowners. Different configurations allow the user to customize poles to specific jobs.
What is the difference between a JE-Series pole and other fiberglass poles? When should I buy a JE-Series pole?
The JE series has an integrated solid foam core. Each pole is tested at the factory to confirm the insulating properties. They are used when working near power lines (such as line clearance.) The JE series are NOT hotsticks. Other Jameson fiberglass poles are hollow and are batch tested for insulating properties.
How many poles can I use end-to-end when working overhead?
As a general rule, Jameson recommends no more than three 6-foot sections be used together. However, the experience of the user must be considered. The professional arborist may be able to use more poles or longer sections, while the homeowner may be comfortable using only one or two sections. Always follow all safety instructions and wear eye protection.
What is the recommended height of our extension poles?
As a general rule, Jameson recommends no more than three 6-foot sections (18-ft) be used together. However, the experience of the user must be considered. The professional arborist may be able to use more poles or longer sections, while the homeowner may be comfortable using only one or two sections. Always follow all safety instructions and wear eye protection.
What size branch are your saw blades intended for?
8 inch diameter or less.
What is a Tri-Cut Saw Blade?
It is a saw blade designed to cut on the pull stroke. Each tooth on the saw is ground on 3 edges to create an extremely effective cutting edge. Conventional saw blade teeth are ground on only 2 edges.
What do I need to buy so a Jameson blade will fit my non-Jameson pole or hot stick?
Jameson blades are intended to be used with Jameson poles and accessories.
Does Jameson make hot sticks?
What is Jameson's return policy? How do I make a return?
What is a sonde and how does it work?
A sonde is a miniature battery-powered transmitting beacon that screws on the end of a Duct Hunter™ or Buddy® Rodder. It is used to pinpoint specific locations in underground pipe. The signal is isolated to the sonde location only and is picked up by the receiver from above ground. Jameson offers a small 512 HZ sonde.
